In response to an inquiry about disparity and inconsistency in shipping
and handling charges of subscription items among the various publishers
which have recently merged into WESTGROUP, CRIV received the following
information:
"This is in response to your inquiry on behalf of CRIV regarding West
Group's shipping and handling charges for print subscription material.
West Group's shipping and handling charges for print products issued on
subscription vary depending on the product's brand. The charges for West
Publishing, Lawyers Cooperative, and Bancroft-Whitney brands are based on
a formula using the number of volumes shipped under a single packing slip.
For 1999, the charge for a one-volume shipment is $5.25, and for two
volumes $8.00. The incremental charge thereafter is generally $1.75 for
each
additional volume. Similarly, shipping and handling charges for pamphlets
and pocket parts of these brands are based on a formula using the number
of pages shipped under a single packing slip. The shipping and handling
charges for Clark Boardman Callaghan (CBC) brand print loose-leaf products
are calculated at 7.5 percent of the subscriber price.
