The Annual Meeting Program Selection Committee hopes that all
of you saw many very interesting programs scheduled for the 1999
Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., July 17-22, 1999.

Please add two more to the program announcement. Unfortunately,
two programs that were selected by AMPSC for the Annual
Meeting did NOT appear in the program announcement that you
received with your December Spectrum. I apologize to the
coordinators of the two programs, Virginia Thomas and Barbara
West, and am including the titles and brief information about the
program content below.

Health Law at the Crossroads (coordinator - Barbara West): Health
law is a burgeoning area of study, practice, litigation, and research.
This program will focus on the regulatory aspects of health law,
specifically those affecting the health care industry. Practitioners
and health care organizations such as HMOs, IPAs, PPOs,
hospitals and hospital systems encounter many regulatory
concerns including STARK II, EMTALA (the patient anti-dumping
law), and a complex mergers and acquisitions process. Health law
resources and research techniques will be discussed.

Electronic Service Guidelines for Federal Depository Libraries: the
Ins and Outs of Meeting GPO's Expectations (coordinator - Virginia
Thomas): More than 110,000 electronic titles are available to
federal depositories thorugh the FDLP Electronic Collection. Only
2+ years into the GPO's 5 to 7 year transition plan for a more
electronic FLDP, 35% of depository resources are being produced
in electronic format. This program will present the perspectives of
several individuals about the GPO's electronic service
expectations, including the perspective of a GPO Library Programs
Service member who will explain the specific provisions of the
guidelines, an expert on U.S. government information policies and
practices who will discuss the potential impact on depository
libraries, and the director of a law library with a depository who will
discuss some of the practical effects of the new guidelines on the
library's policies, services, and staff.

These two programs will be included in the preliminary and final
programs.
