The following message is in response to a question posted to ServiceNews on
January 20 regarding West's Texas Statutes and Codes series and the
frequency of its publication.

Question: I was under the impression that the pamphlet versions of West
Texas Codes,
such as the "Texas Penal Code" came out every two years after the
legislative session. An advertisement I just received seems to contradict
this. I was wondering if West just started publishing these annually or if
they have done this in the past.

Response: Publications in West's Texas Statutes and Codes series are
published either every other year or annually, depending on whether the
publication is annotated or not. Unannotated statute publications are issued
every other year, unless there is an unforeseen significant change in
legislative language. For example, The Texas Penal Code, 30th edition, was
published "off-schedule" in 1998 to incorporate changes in legislative
language. It was last published in September 1997 and will be published
again in the fall of 1999. Annotated code publications, such as Kinkeade &
McColloch's Texas Penal Code Annotated, however, are published annually to
update the annotations, including new court decisions and other changes
unrelated to legislation changes.
