Blackstone's Commentaries *204-05 (Book II, chapter 14 Of Title By Descent)
 lists the fourth degree upwards or downwards from the first person you are
beginning with, e.g., fourth degree of yourself would be either your great
great grandfather or great great grandson. 1 lineal degree = 2 ancestors
(father mother), 2 lineal degrees =4 ancestors (grandparents on each side),
3 = 8 ancestors (great grandparents), 4 = 32 great great grandparents or
children).

Hope this helps.

Subject: ? fourth degree

This message is being cross-posted, so please forgive the duplication.

I have been asked to find the definition of "fourth degree" as in the
context of a person being related to another person by consanguinity, or
affinity, within the fourth degree. I need to know exactly how persons of
the fourth degree are related to each other.

I have searched all over the internet, various libraries and multiple
publications to no avail. You guys are my last resort.

Thanks very much!!!
Karen
