Richard: I also received this letter. Obviously, the authors got access
to an AALL Directory or US Lawyers Directory, etc. and just sent a
blanket mailing. I'd like to know the skinny on these folks, too. Any
help from out Connecticut colleagues?

Subject: Connecticut defamation notice
POSTED TO SEVERAL LISTS
Did anyone else receive a letter from a couple in Connecticut stating
that "the decision of State v. Joyce, 243 Conn 282, 705 A.2d 181
(Conn. 1997) contains false and defamatory assertions of fact.
Therefore, please take each and every measure, to which you are
lawfully permitted and legally obligated, to make the truth readily
accessible to your reading public. The failure to take such remedial
measures may result in a defamation claim against a secondary
publisher and a civil action in tort". It also includes a notice to
attach
to the volumes and computer terminals warning of the false and
defamatory statements.
The letter seems to be a form letter with my name and library. This is
a new one on me. Perhaps the folks in Connecticut can provide more
information on this strange notice.
