The following CRIVGram has been posted to several listservs to ensure wide
distribution. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

CRIVGram--November 13, 1998--AALL's Committee on Relations with Information
Vendors (CRIV) has worked hard since the AALL Annual Meeting in Anaheim to
respond to the need expressed there by librarians and vendors for the
provision of up-to-date information and resources through electronic means.
One way we responded was to introduce CRIVGrams and CRIV Alerts as our
primary form of communicating about matters of immediate concern. Today I
am pleased to announce another response, one that I believe will prove just
as useful: CRIVPage.
CRIVPage--the Web site of the Committee on Relations with Information
Vendors--has been retooled and refined in the past few months with a goal
of becoming a law librarian's first choice among resources to consult for
information about the world of legal information publishing. Our Webmaster
Janeen Heath has created a content-rich Web site designed to keep you
abreast of what is happening in the publishing industry and, especially,
what CRIV is doing to assist librarians and vendors not only to survive but
to thrive in today's challenging environment.
Although still a work in progress, many features that can help you on a
daily basis are already present on CRIVPage
(<http://www.aallnet.org/committee/criv/>). Here are just a few:
--- "CRIVTools" contain resources developed by CRIV to help librarians in
their daily work; "Vendor Contact Information," for example, is a CRIVTool
that provides telephone, fax, e-mail, and address information for most
major legal publishers; look for new CRIVTools to be added frequently
--- "Legal Publishers List," a link maintained with the permission of its
creator Bob Richards, tells you who owns what legal publishing company
these days
--- "In the News" provides information about the latest events in the legal
publishing world
--- "FTC Guidelines" provides the text of these important standards
covering the law book industry; in the near future CRIV will also include
its annotated guide to the standards as well
--- "CRIVGram & CRIV Alert Archive" provides an easy-to-access source for
these important announcements
--- "CRIV Roster" and "CRIV Responsibilities" provide information about
CRIV members and activities, including who is assigned to what area.
--- "CRIV Complaint Form" allows you to fill out the form on-line and
e-mail it directly to CRIV
I encourage everyone not only to take a look at the "new" CRIVPage but to
bookmark it for future--and regular--consultation. We pledge to keep it
up-to-date and to add features, such as more "CRIVTools," on a continuing
basis. I also encourage you to share your thoughts about CRIV and its
activities, including CRIVPage, by using the "Suggestion Box" which is
available there. Just to remind you: visit CRIVPage at
<http://www.aallnet.org/committee/criv/>.

CRIVGrams and CRIV Alerts are issued by the AALL Committee on Relations
with Information Vendors (CRIV) and are intended to inform librarians about
issues concerning publishers. Questions about CRIVGrams or Alerts generally
should be addressed to Frank Houdek, CRIV Chair. Questions about matter
presented in a specific CRIVGram or Alert should be addressed to the
"contact" individual listed in the body of the announcement. An archive of
CRIVGrams and CRIV Alerts is available on CRIVPage
(<http://www.aallnet.org/committee/criv/>).
