Wanted: Consultants / Evaluators / Experts
The American Association of Law Libraries' Information Technology &
Implementation Working Group (hereinafter, the Working Group) is seeking
qualified applicants for listing in its Directory of Law Librarian
Experts.
The Working Group's mission is to improve public access to legal
information provided by government agencies via the World Wide Web by
offering assistance to government officials and agency web designers.
Visit the Working Group's website
(www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/law/lawlib/aallwg) for more information. The
Directory will be distributed to outside organizations and state agencies
who request assistance in evaluating and improving their websites'
delivery of legal information to the public.
Qualifications:
1. Membership in the American Association of Law Libraries or in an
AALL-affiliated chapter.
2. Familiarity with legal materials and research strategies.
3. Ability to critically evaluate legal materials and the way in
which the materials are presented or delivered.
4. Expertise in creating, editing, or evaluating information sources
on the World Wide Web.
5. Experience with the information-seeking strategies and techniques
of lawyers and other members of the legal community and of nonlawyers and
members of the public.
6. Working knowledge of major web browsers and accessibility
standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Working Group in evaluating government websites that
offer public access to legal information.
2. Evaluate and make recommendations for improving government
websites upon request.
3. Consult with government officials and employees about website
design. We do not expect experts to create or totally redesign an agency
website but instead offer constructive criticism.
Terms of volunteer service: Positions available immediately. Must be
available to consult or speak with government officials and employees
during regular
work hours.
Note: Two-person teams are eligible for listing in the Directory. For
instance, one team member might be a reference librarian, with knowledge
of legal research sources and techniques and regular experience in dealing
with members of the legal community and the general public and the other
team member might possess knowledge of good web design and accessibility
standards.
Note: Law librarians who serve as paid consultants on web design are also
eligible for listing in Directory of Law Librarian Experts. Agencies that
request more information than is available for free will be referred to
paid consultants.
