        The jury instructions (civil and criminal) are prepared by the BAJI and CALJIC Committees,
respectively, of the Los Angeles Superior Court. Years ago, it was West who approached the
committees re: publishing them. I don't know if West has some kind of exclusive contract or
not. One would think the instructions would be in the public domain given that they are
prepared by public servants. On the other hand, one wonders why Matthew Bender didn't include
the BAJI instructions in their Calif. civil jury instructions looseleaf service (or am I wrong
on that score?) if West didn't have the exclusive rights to them somehow.

        If you call Superior Court to find out about the contract arrangements with West, would
you share the info with us?
