Hello everyone,
Thanks to all who replied to my post of yesterday. This is the result that I
have come up with.
Each type of insurance policy (i.e., health, life, property, etc.) appears to
have its own set of codes. I talked to people at the Insurance Information
Institute, the American Council of Life Insurance, and the National
Association of Insurance Commissioners, as well as to other very helpful
law librarians, and no one knew of any standard classification codes.
Also, some people pointed me towards SIC codes. This was not what I
was looking for, although it did point up the fact that the SIC codes are
changing (have changed) to the NAICS codes. I talked to our local GPO
Bookstore yesterday; they expect to have the NAICS code books in the
Cleveland bookstore late next week.
So, one question wasn't answered the way I hoped it would be, but it
uncovered other information. Library serendipity, I suppose! Thanks
