Greetings all law-libbers,
This question is probably best directed to law firm librarians.
I am trying to determine the actual economic benefit to having individual
(native, direct) contracts with individual vendors that also provide on-line
access to their databases via Lexis/Westlaw.
For example, does your firm have direct contracts with Dun &
Bradstreet, Information America, AutoTrak, etc. If so, has anyone really
analyzed whether their firm is deriving an actual benefit from maintaining
so many contracts. Included in this would be an analysis of staff time
required to handle requests, bills, etc.
I am also wondering how you can effectively "police" use of these same
vendors on Lexis and Westlaw by your attorneys, etc. In my
experience, too often the searches have been done on Lexis/Westlaw
despite many reminders that we have better contracts with individuals
on a direct basis.
Any ideas, feedback, experiences, etc. Thanks in advance!
Christine
