With all due respect to Morelli, Serpento and Carr's prior
postings:
publishers who position themselves to provide the majority
of the sources our libraries must stock, and who in doing so
discard editorial reliability, production quality, and
customer service efficiency while price gouging and
superfluously supplementing us -- earn and deserve all the
commentary this list can muster and host! Softening the
exchange of our objections to receiving deranged
subscription material or service doesn't offer a prayer of a
chance of reducing it. Our court's library here oversees
some 18 separate chambers library accounts that include
substantial overlap and duplication. I find the posted
alerts regarding latest publisher misdeeds from whomever
encounters them first to be very helpful in fulfilling my
collection management responsibilities -- they seem to me to
represent "helping each other out" at its finest. And
"me-toos" on the same offense convey to me its widespread
seriousness and offensiveness, especially since the
offending publishers rarely actively acknowledge them. I
very much welcome and appreciate this facet of LAW-LIB
communication -- and BTW, bravo to the more visible
CRIV-GRAM-ings also!
All in my humble opinion, and sincerely respectful of Marcia,
Mary Margaret and Christopher's points.
(Opinions are my own and not those of my federal government
employer or of US Court libraries.)

I agree with everything Mary said except
that I, for one, like to see the "me too"
posts. It helps me gauge the consensus of
the profession. Still being relatively new
to law librarianship, I feel more confident
standing up to the Dark Tower if I know many
of my more experienced peers (not just one
or two) has already done so. There is
strength in numbers!

At the risk of being blowtorched, I offer
the following :
1. Last year when a publisher (anon. to
protect the guilty) sent multiple
copies of an update booklet, someone very
kindly *listed* all the titles to
watch for. That list was worth its weight
in gold electrons.
2. I have no problem with
succinct/summarized reports of rude
representatives if the complaint is stated
professionally for information
purposes, not as a long harangue. (Rarely a
problem here). This alerts
lurker publishers and anyone else who
encounters the rep.
3. BUT "me-too" posts really don't add
anything. A quick check to see
if someone already posted the same problem
title/situation never hurts.
_See_ 1. above.
4. Lastly, any rep solving a problem, or
publisher improving a procedure
or service deserves posted praise too.
Honey makes better bait than
vinegar.

Speaking for myself and, hopefully, not
offending anyone - but - I
must admit that I have spent way more time
reading through all of the
complaints on the multiple copies of the Tax
Restructuring Act than I
did in simply returning the copies that I
did not want to keep. This
list serv is a great way to help each other
out! Let's keep it that
way and not turn it into a forum for gripes.
