Thanks to all who responded to my message for a recommended text for
teaching paralegals legal research. Sorry it has taken me so long to
summarize for the list.
After reviewing several of the titles recommended I have decided to try
LEGAL RESEARCH AND WRITING FOR PARALEGALS 2nd 1998 by Deborah E.
Bouchoux published by Aspen Law & Business. Of the texts I looked at
this one came highly recommended by fellow law libbers. In fact to quote
Marie Erickson "It's better-written, easier to understand and much less
boring.... and cheaper." I agree.
Others recommended included:
- THE LEGAL RESEARCH & WRITING HANDBOOK: A BASIC APPROACH FOR
PARALEGALS by Andrea B. Yelin & Hope Samborn (Aspen 1996)
- FUNDAMENTALS OF LEGAL RESEARCH" Jacobstein ( I learned a new edition
has just come out) Some preferred the paper version of this text.
- HOW TO FIND THE LAW by Cohen, Berring and Olson (West)
- LEGAL RESEARCH: HOW TO FIND AND UNDERSTAND THE LAW by Stephen Elias &
Susan Levinkind (Nolo Press)
Also recommended were Leah Chanin's Specialized Legal Research and
Svengalis's Legal Information Buyer's Guide & Reference Manual. And
Kunz, "The Process of Legal Research" And LEGAL ASSISTANT TODAY for
"good paralegal orientated research articles.
Hope this information helps you Paralegal instructors.
