POSITION: Reference Librarian

RANK: Assistant/Associate Professor

ENVIRONMENT: The Baylor University School of Law is located in Waco, Texas, a town of approximately 104,000 people located almost equidistant between Dallas to the north and Austin to the south. Waco is characterized by short communtes, fair housing prices, a lower than average cost of living, and an array of fun things to do.

The Law School is an academic unit of Baylor University, which was chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas and is the largest Baptist university in the world with over 12,000 students in 155 different baccalaureate programs, more than 35 undergraduate degree plans and 80 graduate and professional degree programs.

The School of Law has approximately 400 students taught by 20 faculty members.

QUALIFICATIONS: A J.D. and M.L.S. from ABA and ALA-approved institutions is required. Also required: Two to three years of library experience with supervisory responsibilities; experience in the use of traditional and electronic information resources, including Innovative Interfaces, and experience with information retrieval via the World Wide Web. Prior experience in teaching Legal Research is considered a priority. The selected applicant will have a strong service orientation and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally. The chosen candidate will also have the ability to work independently as well as with others in a team atmosphere.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Reference Librarian provides in-depth research and reference services to the faculty and students of the Law School as well as the University, the legal community, and the general public. He/She will teach Legal Analysis, Research and Communication (LARC II) to
first year law students three times a year. The selected applicant will also be responsible for InterLibrary Loan and circulation desk activities.
Some computer hardware and sofware troubleshooting in the PC Lab will also be required. She/He will prepare research guides and will be on a rotating team responsible for small library displays. The Reference Librarian will directly supervise one paraprofessional and indirectly supervise ten to twelve student workers. He/She will perform other special duties as assigned by the Director of the Law Library who will be his/her direct supervisor. No evenings or weekend reference duty will be required with this position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a twelve-month tenure track position with law school faculty rank. Family tuition waivers for university courses are available as are other competitive fringe benefits that equal approximately 22% of annual salary. The salary range for this position will be $40,000 - $45,000 annually.
