I wholeheartedly agree with Joe. While telecommuting may be a suitable
alternative for a librarian who has to serve several branches, I agree
that continuing visibility in the firm is an essential aspect of the
profession. In my own experience, I find that I must physically be
available as much as possible, even during lunch, on weekends, etc.
If we want to outsource ourselves, then telecommuting might be
advisable. Then we can just work for whomever, whenever.
P.S. I have two children, but I'll admit I have been fortunate to have had
excellent child care.
