TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN
St. John's University Law Library seeks an energetic librarian to join
its Technical Services Department in an entry level position.
Responsibilities: Provide daily supervision of student workers;
perform original, member, and copy cataloging; problem-solving for a
variety of formats on OCLC; responsible for database maintenance and
authority control on local systems (in process of migrating to
Innovative Interfaces system); assist with in-house retrospective
conversion project, including government documents. With other
members of the professional staff, serves as library liaison to
selected academic departments and participates in collection
development. May participate in providing reference service.
Reorganization of Technical Services operations is expected within the
next year as the migration to Innovative Interfaces takes place, and
it is anticipated that this position would assume additional
responsibilities in acquisitions and serials control.
Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS required. Cataloging experience
using OCLC, LCSH, and MARC formats preferred. Current knowledge of
emerging information technologies and their application to technical
services, and supervisory experience preferred. Effective
interpersonal and written communications skills, and ability to
organize and complete projects necessary.
Twelve-month administrative appointment. Position reports to the
Director for Technical Services. Anticipated appointment date is
October 1, 1998 or earlier. Salary commensurate depending on
