EVENING LIBRARIAN POSITION

The Law Library: The Rittenberg Law Library of St. John's University
School of Law covers 56,000 square feet, occupying all five floors of
the recently constructed Finley Hall and part of the renovated Belson
Hall. With an ever-growing collection of approximately 400,000
volumes and volume equivalents in all formats, the library contains
all federal and state primary authorities and finding aids, including
a comprehensive collection of legal treatises and practice volumes, is
a partial Federal depository and has recently become a United Nations
depository. The library serves a student population of more than one
thousand day and evening students and a full-time faculty of fifty in
addition to adjuncts, alumni, members of the University community and
members of the public seeking use of the government and U.N. documents
collections. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides evening reference service to
the entire Law School community with particular emphasis on faculty
support. Typically works Sunday-Thursday from approximately 3PM to
11PM. Oversees operations of Circulation/Reference/Reserve Desks.
Conducts library orientation tours and bibliographic lectures for
evening students. Prepares research guides, reference statistics and
library-related displays. Participates in collection development.
Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to Head of Public
Services. QUALIFICATIONS: ABA accredited law degree and ALA accredited
library science degree. Experience as a professional law librarian.
Interest in teaching and evidence of ability to teach and make
presentations to groups. Experience in the use of electronic
information systems. Experience with information retrieval via the
Internet. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Public
services orientation. Familiarity with electronic information systems
and ability to adapt to change in the information environment. TERMS
OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative Status; Available August 1, 1998
SALARY: Highly competitive. Commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
