During the July convention of the American Association of Law Libraries
two questions were raised that concern Government Printing Office
services to the library community:
Q) Is it possible to search the GPO Access Monthly Catalog (MOCAT)
<http://www.gpo.gov/catalog> application by item number?
A) In addition to full-text searching, the online MoCat allows fielded
searches for title, publication, year, SuDocs class number, depository
item number, and GPO sales stock number. Users should go to the "Search
MOCAT by Fields" page at
<http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/dpos/adposfld.html>.
Q) How can one check on the latest issue of a Federal Government
periodical?
A) GPO's Library Programs Service will be glad determine the most
recent issue of a Government periodical for you. Send us the question
at <askLPS@gpo.gov>.
We will search the title on our in-house depository and sales
publications data bases and, if necessary, contact the agency publisher
to determine the status. The results of these investigations are then
included in the "Whatever Happened To ..." portion of the Web Tech
Notes application located on GPO Access at
<http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/dpos/webtech.html>.
LPS hopes these services are useful to you. If you have any thoughts
about how our services might be improved, please contact me.
