The AALL Document Delivery Caucus met during the Annual Meeting in
Anaheim. As always, the discussions were lively and informative. Copies
of the first "edition" of the "Law Library Document Delivery Suppliers"
were made available.
Two new projects were discussed. A list of Canadian document delivery/ILL
suppliers will be compiled, as well as a list of "favorite" commercial
document suppliers who supply materials other than law.
A question was asked about RLG's ARIEL software, and the discussion that
followed covered the pros and cons of this
delivery system, as experienced by participants at the meeting. OCLC's
Direct Request, a function of OCLC's FirstSearch, and its impact at Penn was
described by Merle Slyhoff.
Janice Anderson, Georgetown, volunteered to construct the Caucus web
page. It will be made available through AALLNET, with the assistance
of AALL's Jason Hinkle. The page will include the purpose of the Caucus,
contact names, ongoing projects, the list of "Law Library Document
Delivery Suppliers," and the new lists as they are completed. An
advantage to posting the lists to the web is that they can be easily
updated. Look for an announcement about the web page in the next
few months.
Anyone wishing to include their law library in the list of document
delivery suppliers should send the information (name of library,
address, contact name, number and fax, plus whether copies are mailed
and/or faxed) to Merle Slyhoff at the e-mail below. We would like to
have all states, plus law libraries outside the U.S., represented.
