University departments

I was asked by a patron if there was any way of getting the
addresses of specific university departments by SUBJECT approach
rather than having to wade through college guides that list by
state, then the university, then the departments (to get such a
list would entail looking up the dept. in the index and flipping
through hundreds of pages to get the address of that dept. at
each university).

I was wondering if there was an electronic source (web site,
CD-ROM) that would allow one to search by subject eg. law
schools, psychology depts., computer science depts.) and retrieve
a list of the addresses for those depts. from universities nationally,
and even internationally.

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to locate a site on the web, and I
have also called local public and university libraries with no
luck. The impression given is that what the patron wants doesn't
exist.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
