Suscribers to the print version of the Wall Street Journal get a discount to the electronic version.

Robert:

This concern was addressed in the publishing industry about 10-15 years
ago. If Lexis-Nexis still publishes all of McGraw-Hill's magazines and
newsletters the question was addressed before the advent of PCs, so it
was late 1970s-early 80s. The Wall St. Journal addressed it recently in
deciding to charge for the electronic version; I suspect subscribers to
the print version get electronic access free. There is no right answer.

Why not reserve decision whether to charge until after the electronic
version is up and running, and watch your subscription count?

In all likelihood, the effect on your list of paid subscribers will be
minimal or nonexistent. How will you separate the web site from the
appointment of a new editor if you have a drop in subscriptions? (Just
teasing!)

If you want to communicate further off- or on-list, please feel free.
