CAPLL Advisory: Making Exhibit Hall appointments

As it happens every year in the last few days before leaving for
the AALL Annual Meeting, the flurry of email messages from people
looking for transportation and roommates increases. The pieces of
bulk mail also increase and as you try to pack and clear off your
desks and leave instructions for assistants, the natural tendency
is to delete email without reading and toss that bulk mail.

STOP!!

If you didn't notice, there is a trend taking place this year in
what have traditionally been the "Big Booths" in the Exhibit Hall.
Lexis-Nexis, West Group, and CCH Incorporated are running "tech
centers" adjacent to their regular booths. Special presentations
of new products are scheduled and you can make appointments with
the representatives at the booths. (You can search lawlib archives
for the actual notices over the last couple of weeks.)

If you discarded these messages without reading, however, you would
have missed the fact that certain company executives are scheduled
for booth duty. For example, Hugh Yarrington, President and CEO of
CCH Incorporated will be in the booth on Sunday from 6-7 p.m. Gene
Landoe, Customer Support Vice President, will be in the tech booth
on Monday, 2:15-3:00. There will be a complete schedule posted in
the tech booth at #503.

Lexis-Nexis does not indicate names of executives who will be in
attendance, but I bet this would be a great time to meet the
Librarian Support Group (you know their faces from the full page
ads but have you met them?)

And in yesterday's mail, an "AALL Extra" from West Group with THEIR
schedule of executives in the booth. Dave Oliveiri, VP of Legal
Education Group (Sunday 2-3:00); Gerald Johnson, VP Academic,
Librarian and International Relations (Sunday 3-4); Ron Boller,
Senior VP Finance and Customer Operations (Monday 10-11); Mary
Ellen Marlowe, Senior Director, Customer Service (Monday 10-11) are
among the executives who will be on hand. Oh yes, Mike Wilens,
Executive VP and Chief Technology Officer will be there Tuesday,
11-noon. I suspect the full schedule will be posted.

I haven't seen a similar schedule posted for Matthew Bender, but I
would suspect you will find some key people in attendance as usual.

So be sure to spend a lot of time in the Exhibit Hall. It appears
there will be people in attendance you can talk to about making
products and services better for all of us.

My only remaining question: how many librarians CAN we stuff into
one standard exhibit booth?

See you soon!
