proposals

The folks that attend our annual meeting are not new to the profession or
to law libraries and they're interested in intermediate and advanced-level
programs. Did you know that 74% of the AALL members who register for the
annual meeting are at mid-career level? that 67% have management
responsibilites? or that they average 13.7 years as a librarian?

It helps to know the audience when you're developing a program proposal,
and some of the information from the last AALL membership survey may give
you some food for thought as you work on yours:

        * Division of AALL membership:
                Firm - 33%, Academic - 31%, Court - 15%
        * Average membership in AALL: 10 years
        * 99% support the Washington Affairs Office and information
                policy involvement
        * 99% support consumer advocacy component
        * 52% of firm librarians are in firms with fewer than 80
attorneys; 48% are in firms with 80+ attorneys
        * 29% have JD degress; 15% are members of a bar
        * Employers pay fees for 90% of registrants; programs need
                to address employer's concerns
        * 29% of registrants are men; 71% are women

For more info, check out the Program Planner's Handbook for 1999 on
AALLNET (http://www.aallnet.org/events/99_handbook.html), come to the Open
Forum in Anaheim on Monday, July 13, from 5:30-6:30 -- or ask a member of
the Annual Meeting Program Selection Committee (AMPSC). By an amazing
coincidence, that includes me, so ask away!

See you in Anaheim!
