Automated Systems/Technical Services Librarian, University of
Missouri-Columbia Law Library, Columbia Missouri
DESCRIPTION: Coordinates and provides technical support for computing
resources within the library, including integrated library system, computer
lab, etc. This position functions as a member of the law school's technology
team and depends on collaboration and effective communication. Works closely
with law school network manager in supporting email, Internet access,
wordprocessing, legal research, CALI and numerous other applications. Serves
as Law Library's network manager within University of Missouri system-wide
integrated library system. Advises Director on systems planning and support
issues. Also manages a major technical services function, most likely
cataloguing. The specific technical services assignment will depend on the
candidate's qualifications and the needs of the library. May participate in
reference services on limited basis with all other librarians (including
possible evening or weekend rotation) to the extent other duties permit.
Supervises one full time Computer Support Specialist and one or more full time
Library Assistants in technical services.
The University of Missouri-Columbia Law Library serves a faculty of
approximately thirty and a student body of about 550. The Law Library staff
includes seven librarians and 8.2 FTE support staff who work in a
collaborative, team-oriented environment. The collection numbers over 300,000
volumes. The Law Library is fully automated, using the Innovative Interfaces
System. The computer lab, located within the Law Library, includes 22
networked workstations and provides additional network connections for laptop

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS, or equivalent degree;
experience installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting PC
hardware, peripherals, and software applications; proficiency in managing
CD-ROM, web pages, and other resources; experience using and managing
integrated library systems; knowledge of relevant standards and practices such
as AACR2, LC classification, etc.; strong service orientation and excellent
communication skills. Applicants with relevant experience who will complete
their degrees in 1998 will be considered. Preferred additional
qualifications: familiarity with Innovative Interfaces system; previous
cataloguing or other technical services experience; law library experience or
knowledge of legal bibliography; network or file server management experience;
demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
SALARY: commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of
Missouri offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and

12-month position with standard vacation and sick leave.
