West Group Technology Center
West Group is sponsoring a technology center with three full days of
programming. The center is open to any attendee of the annual meeting and
features brief, informative sessions that demonstrate West's latest
technology, products and services.

The center's convenient location, adjacent to the West Group booth on the
exhibit floor, makes it readily accessible for attendees to make short
visits without disrupting their day's schedule. The tech center is arranged
classroom style but will remain an informal setting. No preregistration is
required, and attendees can participate in these sessions at their own pace.
Refreshments will be served and West Group promotional items will be handed
out to attendees of each of the sessions. Also, attendees who visit the
center, participate in a session and drop off their business cards will be
included in a drawing for a Palm Pilot (one drawing at the end of each
exhibit day). The schedule of events is as follows:

Sunday, July 12:

12:30 - 1:30 p.m. - West Intranet Tools and www.westlaw.com - Learn exciting
new ways of sharing a variety of "members only" information. Also, get a
hands-on experience of www.westlaw.com, a fully functional and comprehensive
legal research source on the Web.

legal citations within a Microsoft(r) Word for Windows( 97 file and
automatically creates a link to West Group's premier legal content.

CourtLink Federal District Court docket information is now available on
Westlaw(r). Following cases from complaint to judgement, directly from the
desktop, provides time and cost savings advantages for attorneys.
Day-to-day listings of all docket entries and specific ordering numbers for
retrieving documents are available along with the ability to find names of
parties, attorneys of record, judgements, and conference dates. CourtLink
on Westlaw is the result of an exclusive agreement between West Group and
the Data West Corporation.

2:30 - 3:15 p.m. - New Concepts and Strategies in Legal Research. A
videotaped panel discussion with Hon. Thomas Cecil, Presiding Judge,
Sacramento Superior and Municipal courts; Professor Robert Berring,
Director, Law Library, Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley; and Mr. John Hanft,
Director, Witkin Legal Institute, West Group.

The history of legal research shows a clear reliance upon
editorially-enhanced secondary sources to find, explain and update the law.
Secondary sources of proven reliability become pathfinders for legal
researchers. The cautious and successful legal researcher could rely, in
significant measure, upon proven strategies or pathways. The early
development of online legal databases reflected the organization and
contents of print resources.
3:15 - 4:00 p.m. - The Law Library Re-Defined: Access, Location and Use of
Collected Legal Information in the Predictable Future. A videotaped panel
discussion with Mr. Bill Fenwick, Fenwick and West; Prof. James Hoover,
Associate Dean and Director, Law Library, Columbia University Law School;
and Mr. Clif Purkiser, Intel Corp.

Increasing reliance upon the Internet for both primary and secondary legal
resources requires a redevelopment of legal research strategies. What
results may resemble the traditional or take on an entirely new outline and
shape? The process is underway, but the outcome is not yet certain.
