For those of you who asked for the responses to my request, here they are:
ILR probably stands for "Indian Law Reporter", a publication of the American
Indian Lawyer Training Program, Inc. (319 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA
94610). The phone number is 510-834-9333. I can't answer your question
regarding subsequent history. Neither Shepards nor Auto-Cite recognize the
cite format.
13 ILR 6035 is the correct cite
ILR is indeed "Indian Law Reporter"
Sage v. Lodge Grass School Distrcit No. 27,
No. 82-287 (Crow Ct. App., July 30, 1986
runs from page 6035 to 6041
Our Indian Law attorney doesn't think you can track it.
My only other thought is that if the Crow Court of Appeals if the highest
Indian court, then the next level would be a US federal court (US District
Court? US Court of Appeals?) But you already searched by title ( I
presume in something like ALLFEDS). This indicates that the case was
not further appealed.
Indian Law Reporter published by the American Indian Lawyer Training
Program, Inc. Phone #510-834-9333.
The actual cite is to Indian Law Reporter published by Native American
Rights Fund in Boulder, CO. Phone # is (303) 477-8760. The actual case
cite is l3 ILR 6035.
ILR is the Indian Law Reporter. Sage v. Lodge Grass actually begins on p.
6035. You may already have this information, but just in case you don't -
this was an opinion of the Crow Court of Appeals, July 30, 1986, No.
82-287. The matter was remanded to Crow Tribal Court. I don't know of a
way to update the ILR other than checking case tables in later volumes. I
did that, but did not find anything under Sage or Lodge Grass. I don't
know if you would have any luck trying to trace it through the earlier
Supreme Court opinion in the case, National Farmer's Union Insurance Co. v.
Crow Tribe, 105 S.Ct. 2447 (1985), but perhaps you have already tried that.
In fact, ILR is the abbreviation that the Indian Law Reporter uses for
its own cites and cases. This Indian law Reporter is for
Native-American materials. The cite for Sage v. Lodge Grass is 13
Indian Law Reporter 6035. This case was heard by the Crow Court of
Appeals and was decided in 1986. I don't find any mention of this case
after 1986. The Crow Court of Appeals is a tribal court in Montana.
She probably wants Indian Law Reporter, published by American
Indian Lawyer Training Program, 319 McArthur Blvd. Oakland Calif 94610
ISSN 0097-1154
The cite you have is to the Indian Law Reporter published by the
American Indian Lawyer Training Program. Page 6036 is the second page of
Sage v. Lodge Grass. It is only a case reporter and not a citator. If
you think it would be of any help, I would be happy to look at the next
volume or two (1987 and 1988) and see if there are any other references
to your case.
It starts on 6035 not 6036 and it is Sage v. Lodge Grass School. It has
a historical summary of the case within it.
