Thanks to the help of Bonnie Schwartz and Nancy Lenahan I now have a few
more specifics for the old Massachusetts decision I was looking for
(alluded to in Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter). Perhaps someone can tell me
how to find this:

1644 case under the General Court (Unicameral System) in Salem, MA:
Dispute between Goody Sherman (a poor widow) and Robert Keayne (a wealthy
businessman) involving ownership of a stray pig.
(The disagreement between the magistrates and the deputies over who was
right eventually caused the establishment of the bicameral system.)

Thank you in advance for any help!
