A law professor here wonders if there is an English translation of
certain cases from early English plea rolls and of Bracton's Note Book. We
have Maitland's 1887 version of the latter, but it is in Latin.
As for the plea roll material: one is from 6 Richard I (we have the
1835 Palgrave edition, which contains the case on p. 84 --but again not
modern English), and the other is cited as Placita Coram Rege, Easter, 14
Edw. I, m. 9. I could not find either of these citations in the Selden
Society publications, which we also have. There are three Selden volumes
containing pleas in Edward I's reign, but the cite we want doesn't appear to
be there.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
