Another memorial for Janet Wallin

After seeing Bryan Carson's post earlier in the week, I thought I should
share mine with the rest of you on law-lib as well. (Bryan and I worked
together at the UT law library circulation desk, he as a law student, I as
a lowly undergrad.) I'm now a reference librarian at the University of
Cincinnati, with 6 hours left on my MLS and continuing delusions of future
grandeur ;) I hope there will be more such memorials for Prof. Wallin in
the weeks and months to come.

Thanks for posting the news of Prof. Wallin's passing. She answered the
phone the day I called looking for a work-study job as a UT undergraduate
in 1988, and her door was always open to me from that day forward--
even if she was in the middle of grading what appeared to be a mountain of
property exams. I'll never forget her Friday evening ritual of watering
all the plants after most everyone else had gone home, or the many
conversations in her office that left me wondering why she seemed so
interested in someone who wasn't even in law school yet. She really loved
that library, the people in it, and what it stood for. I'd like to think
we all have some of that in ourselves, but there are very few librarians
quite like her. I hope one day to join the list of future directors she
mentored.
