I just want to pay tribute to a true professional. Janet Wallin was the director of the University of Toledo Law Library when I was in law school and a student worker in the library there. Her charm, class, and professionalism were unequaled. Janet Wallin was one of the people who influenced me to become a law librarian.
As director of the law library, Jan's enthusiasm and professionalism were contagious. She fostered an atmosphere of competence that the others who worked with her, such as Mike Whipple and Ted Potter, passed on. They made a young law student/student worker realize just what a wonderful profession librarianship was. Throughout my career, I have always tried to emulate the ideals that I was taught at the University of Toledo Law Library. I am better off, the law library profession is better off, and countless generations of law students are better off because of her influence. Janet Wallin will be sorely missed.

Many of you will be saddened to learn that Janet Wallin
passed away on Thursday, December 11, 1997. Jan was the
Law Library Director and a Professor of Law at the University
of Toledo for more than 30 years.
Her three decades saw the completion of two library building
projects and tremendous growth in her library collection. Yet
no statistic can reveal how freely Jan shared her talents.
She served as President of ORALL in 1967-68. She was a
mentor to five librarians who are now law library directors.
She taught Property to hundreds of law students and her charm
warmed countless hearts. She is sorely missed.
