1998 marks the fiftieth anniversary of both the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the
Crime of Genocide. These instruments heralded an era of great gains and
bitter disappointments for supporters of human rights. Drawing on those
experiences, four international experts examine where and how human
rights need to develop in the next 50 years.
