POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT -- INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LIBRARIAN
TAGGART LAW LIBRARY, OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
An academic, tenure-track appointment within the Law Library faculty,
responsible for integrating information technologies into the College of
Law's curriculum and legal research programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
M.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited library science school or J.D. from an
A.B.A. accredited law school or both. Law library experience helpful, but
not required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience with
DOS, Windows, PC applications, CD-ROM, networking, on-line information
services and Internet applications. In addition, the successful applicant
must demonstrate the following personal characteristics: initiative, good
judgment, ability to communicate well, excellent interpersonal skills and a
desire to improve legal education through provision of high- quality
library services and bibliographic instruction.
DUTIES:
The successful candidate will assume leadership within the College of Law
for the development and management of technology-based library services and
their integration into the law school curriculum. Essential duties include
the following:
Promotion of computer-assisted legal education and other technology uses
within the law school community.
Incorporation of new technologies into law library and law college
operations.
User assistance.
Identification, evaluation, acquisition and management of electronically
based information services, including on-line database services such as
WESTLAW and LEXIS, CD-ROM services, application software, and interactive
video.
Management of local area networks and Internet applications such as
e-mail discussion lists, file transfer protocol, and world wide web.
Hardware and software support for PCs in student lab and faculty offices.
Participation in professional staff evening and weekend reference rotation.
Conduct workshops in the use of software applications and information
databases.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The Taggart Law Library is a modern legal collection serving more than 325
law students and 22 full-time faculty. Our collection contains more than
240,000 volumes or equivalents as well as on-line data bases, compact discs
and audiovisual materials. Library processes have been completely
automated by the installation of all Innovative Interfaces modules and a
Local Area Network for both the Law Library and the Law College. A
building expansion project is currently underway, with a scheduled
completion date of August 1998. The renovation includes a significantly
expanded computer lab (which is designed to facilitate instruction),
dedicated server room, computer storage/work room, network access to tables
and carrels throughout the library, and a computer- enabled classroom. The
Law Library staff consists of four professional librarians and seven
support staff.
SALARY:
Salary and rank dependant on experience and qualifications. Fringe
benefits include TIAA-CREF retirement program, medical insurance,
disability benefits, life insurance, and tuition remission for dependents
attending Ohio Northern University for an initial degree.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Tenure-track, 12-month appointment, within the Law Library Faculty.
