The Military City Databases were freely accessible earlier this year when I
wrote that description. Unfortunately, as Cheryl noted, they are now only
available to subscribers. There is a very small sample database available
for free at http://www.mco.com/mco_sample_search.html, but it contains
records for only 5 surnames.
Also, for those of you using my book, I would appreciate user feedback as I
plan the next edition. I am especially interested in hearing feedback on
scope, organization, and indexing.

> Greg Notess, Government Information on the Internet (Bernan, 1997)
describes a
> service called Military City Databases at
www.militarycity.com/member/locate.html
> The description states "databases at this site use a WAIS search engine
for finding people in the
> military . . . Active Duty Personnel Database, Overseas Personnel
Database, Duty Losses
> Database, Reserves Databases I and II."
> What Notess does not say is that this is a "members only" site and one
must pay to be a
> member, as I discovered when I accessed the site. Still, it may be worth
the price if there
> is not alternative (and I haven't found one).
