I inherited property in West Virginia from my parents and have been
paying taxes on it for years. Years before their death, they had agreed
( to the best of my knowledge, verbally) to allow the adjoining
neighbors use of the property for pasture. My brother is afraid they
may be able to claim "homesteading" rights. On my last visit, I noticed
that they had installed fences for their horses.
My questions are:
- What are the homesteading laws in WVA or where can I find this
information?? ( I called the County Court House, and no one I
talked to had ever heard of "homesteading.")
- Would they have any rights or claims to this property under these
laws??
Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
