REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
**MINIMUM DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:
Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an American Library
Association accredited program.
**MINIMUM NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
Substantial knowledge of, and aptitude for, computer technology, especially
microcomputers and networks. Demonstrated effective oral, written, and
interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational abilities.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Relevant library experience, with experience in computer lab management,
knowledge of legal resources and legal research techniques, experience
administering a CD-ROM network, teaching experience, and a JD from an
American Bar Association accredited law school.
DESCRIPTION OF VACANT POSITION
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Responsible for the administration and management of
the University of Wisconsin Law Library's computer services, including the
development and provision of related reference and instructional programs.
60% Reference and Electronic Resources Instruction and Services.
Provide reference service in all aspects of American and international law,
with particular emphasis on electronic resources and services. Provide
reference service in the use of microcomputers and peripherals, software,
and databases. Instruct and assist members of the Law School and
University communities in using a wide range of software applications.
Develop user guides and technical documentation for network-based
electronic resources.
30% Computer Services Administration
Help plan and develop the information technology infrastructure for the Law
Library. Develop and administer the library's CD-ROM network. Oversee the
installation of microcomputers and peripherals and ensure their effective
operation. Assist in troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate Computer Lab personnel. Acquire and maintain
management information and issue reports. Assist in the integration of the
library's resources with other campus libraries' resources. Assist in the
development and administration of the library's World Wide Web site. Make
recommendations regarding hardware and software purchases. Serve on Law
Library, Law School, and campus committees as assigned. Serve as a liaison
to computer-assisted legal research vendors' representatives and monitor
the performance of the vendors' student representatives. Help monitor and
enforce copyright restrictions affecting software.
10% Professional Development
Participate in professional development activities, including continuing
education, support of professional associations, publication, and research.
