On August 25, I posted a summary of responses to my question regarding how
to handle legal serials in Sydney. I sent them a courtesy copy, and they
asked me to post this to the list.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to reply. ILS has always
considered our clients to be the most important resource we have. Their
input is invaluable in our efforts to continually improve SydneyPLUS. We
constantly review client requests and provide updates to the software four
times a year. This schedule provides us with the means to respond quickly
to our client's recommendations.
In your email, dated August 25th, it was noted that when SydneyPLUS is
installed three default templates are included: journal, book and report.
Any number of record templates can be added at any time. Each template can
be one of two types: monograph or serial. From the email it is evident
that law libraries require a template type that exhibits behaviour common
to both monographs and serials. We will work with Met Life to add the
necessary functionality into SydneyPLUS to accommodate their requirements.
We would like to invite any concerned user or prospective user to comment
on the enhancement.
After having reviewed all correspondence the enhancement will be scheduled.
We anticipate this enhancement will be completed within 6 months. All
enhancements scheduled as part of our regular maintenance program are
provided to our clients at no additional charge.
SydneyPLUS is a flexible system allowing the user to add fields and
templates. The serials module is powerful in its flexibility in dealing
with subscriptions. Because of the system's flexibility, configuration is
important. A properly configured system will enable the client to do
his/her job more efficiently and with greater ease. To assist our clients
we provide training classes both on and off site. Help can also be be
found just a phone call (604-278-6717) or email (helpdesk@ils.ca) away. We
would encourage all users and prospective users alike to call should they
have any questions or concerns.
