Position: Legal Reference Librarian, Suffolk University Law School
             Library

Background: Suffolk University Law Library is part of a large and vibrant
private law school serving 56 full time faculty, 90 adjunct professors and
1700 day and evening students. Suffolk University Law School is well
established locally with ties to state government and the judiciary and
is seeking to raise its profile nationally. It is the third largest law
school in the country and celebrated its 90th anniversary in the Fall of
1996. The law school, which is located in the heart of Boston, is in the
midst of constructing a cutting edge high technology building planned for
occupancy in the Fall of 1999. The Library will occupy three floors of
the new building. Suffolk University Law School has academic
concentrations in high technology law, civil litigation, financial
services, tax law and health and biomedical law. The Law Library staff of
25 includes 10 professional librarians. The Library uses the Innovative
Interfaces library system, has a local area network for CD-ROM titles and
is connected to the law school's LAN. The Library also provides
Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw and Internet electronic resources from our computer
labs.

Responsibilities: Provide reference, research and instructional services
to students, faculty and staff, including conducting online training
sessions and providing traditional book as well as electronic research
assistance. Prepare research guides, pathfinders, bibliographies and
other written material and place material on the Library web page.
Participate in collection development, including developing a curriculum
specialization. Serve as liaison to a law school journal and first year
writing and research classes. Conduct library tours. Provide
interlibrary loan service as needed. Reports to Assistant Director for
Public Services.

Schedule: Participation in evening, weekend and holiday reference
rotation is required.

Requirements: M.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited library school. Strong
interpersonal and written communication skills, organizational skills and
a firm commitment to Public Services and to working and interacting with a
diverse multicultural community are essential. J.D. degree from an A.B.A.
accredited law school and one to three years law library public services
experience preferred.
