AALL Attendees: Interviews will be conducted at the AALL meeting in
Baltimore, Md., July 20-24, 1997.

Cornell Law Library is looking for a dynamic, innovative and flexible person
for the position of Acquisitions Librarian. Depending on qualifications and
interest, position may have expanded responsibilities, including Head of
Technical Services. Other areas of responsibility may include reference,
collection development, teaching legal research and web activities.

Cornell Law Library is a large academic research library on the cutting edge
of creative library endeavors, which combines excellent collections of
Anglo-American, foreign and international law with growing access to
electronic information sources. Professional development activities are
strongly encouraged.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ACQUISITIONS
Responsible for all phases of acquisitions, coordinates collection
development process with the collection development team, including
participation in selection decisions. Manages all aspects of the
acquisitions/serials department, including ordering and receiving monographs
and serials in all formats, bookkeeping, binding and preservation. Tracks
expenditures and prepares regular expense reports and budget projections.
Participates in the management of the Technical Services department.
Supervises 4.5 FTE staff. Serves as contact with faculty, public services
and vendor representatives. Selects and monitors vendors.

HEAD OF TECHNICAL SERVICES
Coordinates technical services functions in a rapidly evolving electronic
environment. Manages acquisitions, serials, cataloging, preservation and
binding. Supervises a staff of 10 FTE (acquisitions and cataloging).
Collaborates with other members of the law library administration in the
development, implementation and evaluation of library programs and services.
The person in that position needs to be flexible and comfortable with change
and have proven administrative skills.

REQUIRED: MLS or equivalent graduate degree. Two or more years professional
library experience, preferably in a law school. Knowledge of collection
development, automated acquisitions and serials control (Cornell is
currently using NOTIS) and invoice processing. Strong analytical,
interpersonal and written communication skills. Strong service orientation.
Supervisory experience. Working knowledge of current information
technologies, including internet-based sources. Effective negotiation
skills with vendors. Additional requirements for Head of Technical
Services: four to six years of relevant experience, demonstrated creative
leadership, communication, teamwork, and change management skills.

PREFERRED: J.D. and/or strong computer skills.

Salary: commensurate with qualifications. Applications requested by July
