Baltimore Library Tours Still Taking Reservations (long)

Several library tours being offered in conjunction with the AALL Annual
Meeting in Baltimore are still open to registrants. Contact Maggie
Kearney at AALL via e-mail at mkearney@aall.org or via phone at (312)
939-4764 by July 1st.

Please note the TIME CHANGE for the Thurgood Marshall Library Tour (C).

Openings are still available on the following tours:

Tour A: US Courts Library - Monday, July 21: 9:00am to 10:00am
        The US Courts Library is located on the 3rd floor of the Garmatz
Federal Courthouse, directly across the street from the Convention Center.
It serves the federal judges of the US Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit, and
the US District Court, District of Maryland. It is also a selective
dipository of US Government documents.

Tour B: Enoch Pratt Central Library - Monday, July 21: 9:45am to 11:30am
        Don't miss this one! The Enoch Pratt Free Library's Central
Library was established in 1882 by Baltimore Businessman and philantropist
Enoch Pratt, who wished to create a "public library for all, rich and
poor, without distinction of race or color." The Pratt library has
developed into a nationally recognized leader in public library services.
The library's 2.2 million volumes include special African-American, Edgar
Allen Poe, and HL Menken collections.

Tour C: Thurgood Marshall Law Library - Tuesday, July 22: 4:30pm to 6:30pm
        Please note the TIME CHANGE on this tour! The Thurgood Marshall
Law Library is Maryland's largest academic law library. All tour
participants are invited to attend the Academic SIS Reception immediately
following the tour. Tour is almost full - if interested, make a
reservation soon.

Tour E: University of Baltimore Law Library - Tuesday, July 22: 8:30am to
                11:00am
        The University of Baltimore School of Law Library is one of
Maryland's two main centers for legal education. It is located a few
miles north of Baltimore's business district in the city's major cultural
centers, near the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, home of the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra and the Lyric Opera House. Tour particpants will be escorted to
the University of Baltimore's Law School library via the Baltimore Light
Rail System. All tour participants will be given a day-long pass for
utilization of the Light Rail FREE of Charge!

Tour G: Library Company of the Baltimore Bar - Tuesday, July 22:
                1:30pm to 2:30pm
        The Library Company of the Baltimore Bar is one of the very few
membership subscription libraries in the country. It was formed in 1840
by a group of 44 lawyers to serve the Bench and Bar of Baltimore. It is
located on the 6th floor of the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse. Its
ornate vaulted ceiling and intricately carved wooden doorways and shelves
have been featured in "And Justice For All," and the current hit
television show, "Homicide." The Baltimore Sun recently featured the
library in an article about the courthouse, detailing the rare books that
the Bar Library owns, including a 1490 volume called "Abridgment of Cases"
in Anglo-French that is locked in a case of rare books.

Tour H: Gordon, Feinblatt Firm Library - Tuesday, July 22:
                 1:30pm to 2:30pm
        Gordon, Feinblatt is a small downtown law firm with a beautiful
library. The library occupies a space that was once a trading area for a
banking and investment firm. The firm refurbished this area in 1981,
enabling visitors to see some of the original marble and mahogony
fixtures.

Tour I: Venable, Baetjer & Howard Firm Library - Wednesday, July 23:
                9:00am to 10:00am
        The law firm of Venable, Baetjer & Howard was officially
established in 1900. Venable is now the second largest law firm in
Maryland and occupies eight floors in the downtown Mercantile Building.
The Baltimore library takes up almost half of the 17th floor, and is the
primary research facility for the 140 lawyers resident in Baltimore.
Venable was one of the first firms in the nation to utilize the Internet
by creating its own home page.

        Library Tours with fewer than five (5) registrants will be
