CROSS POSTED to STATECOURTCOUNTYLAWLIB-L, apologies for duplication.
The Minnesota Supreme Court has requested us to find out what other law
libraries (especially state law libraries) are doing with transcripts. Of
course, they want to know right away, so I am hoping this message will yield
a significant number of responses.
In Minnesota, a selected number of transcripts are submitted with the briefs
to the appellate courts. When the case is completed, a copy is deposited
with the State Law Library and retained in our collection. The Court is now
considering revising the rules to eliminate this copy, at the request of the
State Public Defender (who, understandably, wants to reduce his costs.)
FYI, we estimate that we get transcripts for 10% of the cases appealed.
Use is minimal - 3 to 5 researchers per year - but they are very, very
grateful to find them.
The question is do you retain transcripts? A YES or NO answer will suffice
but any other information you care to add is welcome.
Thank you in advance.
