Father's day -Reply

There was something about the holiday in Yesterday's
Minneapolis Star-Tribune. (Of course, I already recycled it,
so I can't look at the article.) You might also want to check
Chase's or another holiday book.

>From what I know, Father's day started in approximately
1909 (again, the dates may be wrong since this is from
memory) in Spokane, Washington. The woman whose idea
it was wanted to honor her father, and his birthday was June
19, the third Sunday in June. As a result, the proclomation
signed by the Mayor of Spokane put the holiday on the third
Sunday of the month. The holiday become more popular,
until President Nixon made it a national holiday.

I hope that this helps you.

Does anyone know how Father's Day got started. Was it
just a hallmark
creation? A family friend asked and I thought it would be a
good
question to ask of the librarians on this list who seem to
know the
answers to everything.
