1997 AALL Annual Meeting Housing

I have received several inquiries about the availability of housing at the 1997 AALL Annual Meeting and would like to pass on the information I have.

The most recent report I received from the Housing Bureau (dated 5/9/97) indicates that we are booked at about 23% - 46% of our block, depending on the night. This means there are lots of rooms left. It also means that these percentages of rooms booked will vary from hotel to hotel.

I have heard that some members are experiencing difficulty booking rooms for Wednesday night and for extended stays after the meeting. The Housing Bureau report shows that there are still rooms available on Wednesday. There is another, larger convention beginning immediately after AALL and many of the hotels are fully booked with registrants for that convention beginning on Wednesday and Thursday and continuing through the weekend following the AALL Annual Meeting. Hotels which do have rooms available will most likely charge full rate for any rooms they have remaining.

The Association Room block is based upon the housing patterns of prior years (the number of rooms actually used by AALL members on various nights throughout the meeting) and we have booked an equal or slightly greater number of rooms in Baltimore than used in Indianapolis or Pittsburgh.

Please continue to let me know if you have difficulty with the responsiveness of the Housing Bureau. The best way to reach the Housing Bureau is to fax a letter or memo outlining your questions and concerns to the fax number on the housing. In the meantime, I have asked our conference manager to contact the person in charge of Housing to see if we can obtain more information. I will pass that information on as soon as it is available to me.
