I wish to thank all of you who responded to my inquiry as to whom was
responsible in your firm for training and running the firm's Intranet page.
I was most pleased with the responses (over 30 replied) and with the
outcome, so to speak, so much so that I am moved to write on the topic. In
the interim... about 90% of you that have a firm Intranet page are
responsible for running it (creation, webmaster etc.) As well, those of
you who do teach in the firm, teach the research tech skills of CD ROM and
the WEB. WEXIS is still taught by outside reps and the initial CD ROM
training/presentation is usually done by a rep as well, but after the first
contact, it seems to fall upon the shoulders of the firm librarians for
either group refresher courses, or one-on-one updates. About 50% of the
responding firm librarians state that all staff have Internet access and
they are responsible for teaching this group as well.
Bravo!
Remember that Aristotle used to moonlight as a librarian so feel free to
moonlight as Aristotle. Long live the "invisible college."
