Colleagues:
I just read an article in the May, 1997, issue of Wired (page 162) that
discusses something of which we should all be aware. The article, "Digital
Ink," by Charles Platt, covers the development of the e-book. As presently
envisioned, the e-book will be powered by a couple of AA batteries, and will
have flexible, paper-thin "pages." It is being designed to be a reusable
product; you can dump the existing contents and download something else.
Apparently the technology exists, and it's mostly a matter of putting it all
together in a working package. The scientist working on the project thinks
a working e-book is just a couple of years away, at a price of about $400.
Yikes! Is the future here already??!!
