Subject: On-Line Legislative & Regulatory Information Sources

The Law Librarians' Society of Washington, D.C., Inc. (LLSDC)
has recently published an 18 page booklet entitled "Legislative
Research SIS Membership Directory and Source Book: 1997".
Within it are listings of this special interest section's bylaws,
membership directory, and an article I have updated entitled
"Sources of On-Line Legislative and Regulatory Information".
The article briefly describes most every major database provider of
federal and state legislative and regulatory information (including
Internet sources) and compares in a tabular format in over 50
different topic categories what legislative and regulatory
information they provide, the name of each database file, and how
far back the information is kept. The database providers include
CQ Washington Alert, Legi-Slate, Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw,
CIS Congressional Compass, GPO Access, U.S. House of
Representatives, the Library of Congress' Thomas and LOCIS
databases, State Net, Legi-Tech, and Knight-Ridder Information
(formerly Dialog).
Members of the LLSDC's Legislative Research Special Interest Section
should have already received their copy. Those who are not members of
the SIS can purchase the publication from the LLSDC management office
at 669 South Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314-5092. The
price is $7.50 and includes shipping and handling. Orders must be
prepaid. Checks should be made out to LLSDC.
