Law-libbers, I am posting this press release because I find the approach
to sales of information exciting and refreshing. I especially like the
"Search any time. Pay only for the information you use." approach. I
have been requesting the distribution of treatise material in this format
for some time. While I will be interested in the "pricing." This seems a
step in the right direction. Sorry if this post annoys anyone (remember
to use the delete function) otherwise as my 16 year old is wont to say
"deal with it." I remain yours in Lawlibrarianship. Al Podboy of Cleveland.

Here is a copy of the press release Matthew Bender will issue on
April 10 announcing the new Authority On-Demand (tm) Internet
legal research service. I wanted you to see a copy before it is
     distributed to the trade press.

Matthew Bender's primary target audience for this initiative is
the solo practitioner, a heretofore untapped customer pool for
     the company.

Matthew Bender will also unveil its Internet Bookstore and the
ability to access Shepard's citations on the net.

There is much work left to do on bender.com, including the
integration of the practice area pages that several groups have
incorporated. We will concentrate on those areas as soon as
     possible.

     For Immediate Release

Matthew Bender Announces New Internet Research Service:
250 Comprehensive Publications; Pay Per Use.

     Chicago, IL, April 10, 1997 -- Authority On-Demand(TM), a new
Internet legal research service, was introduced today at the
American Bar Association TECHSHOW 97. The new service from
Matthew Bender & Company, Inc., available at www.bender.com,
provides instant access to more than 250 expert-authored
     publications--highly-respected treatises and comprehensive,
authoritative practice area libraries--that address literally
     thousands of complex legal issues.

"The Authority On-Demand service will appeal to anyone who needs
instant access to authoritative legal research information --
access that is unconstrained by geography, regular business hours
or membership status," says Kathryn Downing, President and CEO of
Matthew Bender. "We've used the powerful, industry-standard FOLIO
     (R) software to enable legal researchers to get the precise
answers quickly to their complex legal questions, and combined it
with simple, secure, credit card transactions."

Search any time. Pay only for information you use.
Authority On-Demand takes advantage of the unique capabilities
of the Internet--offering access at any time to computers
     running Microsoft Windows(R) 3.X, Windows 95(R) or Macintosh(R)
OS--and enables the convenience of electronic research paired
     with electronic commerce.

To access Authority On-Demand, researchers can use Netscape
     Navigator(R) 3.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer(R), or other
browsers that support presentation of data and graphics in
frames. Users pay only for the information they use; this
capability is enabled by Cybercash(R) technology, which provides
secure double-encrypted transactions with instantaneous credit
     card authorization.

     Authoritative Content is Key.
In addition to its commitment to the integration of cutting-edge
technology with legal information, Matthew Bender continues to
deliver content that is both accurate and timely. Regardless of
the medium, the high quality of its authors and the mastery of
their interpretation of the law distinguishes Matthew Bender
     information and analysis.

Authority On-Demand comprehensive coverage includes these
highly-respected treatises: Chisum, Patents; Collier on
Bankruptcy; Milgrim on Trade Secrets; Moore's Federal
Practice; Nimmer on Copyright; Weinstein's Federal Evidence.

Matthew Bender & Company, Inc. is a leading publisher of legal
information and analysis in print and electronic formats, and is
respected for providing comprehensive practice information,
authored by the finest minds in the legal profession. For
     additional information, call (800) 223-1940.

www.bender.com, the Matthew Bender Web site, offers the Authority
On-Demand(TM) research service and the Shepard's Citations
