The Atlas is resulted from the state key research project " the
formation and evolution of Qinghai-Xizang(Tibet) Plateau and the
regularities of the distribution of the mineral resources". It is
composed of about 400 colour photos carefully selected from collections
of more than 150 geoscientists who explored industriously, arduously
almost the whole Plateau during more than 10 years, and about 30
scientific charts. Both photos and charts are captioned in both Chinese
and English. The Atlas comprehensively and systematically introduces
the origin and evolution, environment and mineral resources, folkways
and historic sites of the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau of China.
The Atlas is a precious bench-mark document in the geoscientific study
of the Plateau, a scientific basis for exploiting nature resources of
this remote area, a supreme guidebook for sightseeing of "the roof of
the world".
The Atlas is made up of six parts: geomorphology, stratigraphy, plate
tectonics, mineral resources, geoscientists; activities, folkways and
historic sites.
The Atlas is the first of the kind which combines science with art,
showing both the mystery and the beauty of the unique Plateau in the
world and so is simply an enjoyment for those who love to see nature in
its genuine status.
