Appleman on insurance, 2d

Colleagues -
Perhaps this has already been asked and answered on the list, but I'm
uncertain exactly how many editions of Appleman on insurance exist.
We have the original, 25 volume set, c.1941-1948. Then we have a 60
volume set (with current pocket-parts), c.1965- revising the
original work. We recently cataloged Holme's Appleman, 2d.
When I went to put it on the shelf, the work was cuttered to fall
immediately after the original volumes but before the revised volumes.
This led me to question how many, or which editions, we should own.
My cataloger pulled up the OCLC records and from her careful reading
of the records, it appears that the revised edition replaced volumes
of the original set; that our cataloging the revised volumes (long before
the current cataloger's tenure) as a different edition may have been
a mistake. What's the deal?
Any insights, wisdom, explanations would be appreciated.
Thanks.
