I received this email reference request and hope some of you can
suggest some readings. Feel free to email Helen directly; I asked her if it
was ok to post her message to law-lib and she said that was just fine.
Or, email your suggestions to law-lib for us all to see (or me directly if
you want to be anonymous!) and I'll compile a list.
I'm also posting the question for our students. I'm really curious to see if
their suggestions will differ very much from ours.

Dear Sir:
I am entering law school this Fall semester. I have been in medicine for
25 years, and would like to realign my thinking to the philosophy of law.
Who do you feel are good authors or good books on Jurisprudence?
Can you suggest a "reading list" of good writers and their texts? For
example, in science, I recommend Lewis Thomas MD, Stephen Hawking, and even
Carl Sagan.
Unfortunately, friends in medicine recommend John Grishan (ghastly) or
watching L.A. Law!
Help! Please make some suggestions for me. Who are your best thinkers in
American Jurisprudence?
Sincerely yours,
Helen Eschenbacher
