I too want to know if there is such a thing as legal
proofreading. When I was working at the New York Public
Library, candidates for paralegal and legal secretarial
positions in law firms would regularly come to the library and
ask for books on legal proofreading. Some of them were
extensively trained in "regular" proofreading, but the want ads
in the New York Times all ask for candidates who are familiar
with "legal proofreading." Some of these people had been
through interviews, and were told that they were not qualified
for these positions because they only knew "regular"
proofreading. I was never able to discover anything different
about legal proofreading to help these people.
