REFERENCE LIBRARIAN

POSITION: Reference librarian (entry level)

SALARY: Competitive

BACKGROUND: The Kathrine R. Everett Law Library at the University of
North Carolina - Chapel Hill is part of a busy academic law school serving
45 faculty, 700 students, visiting scholars, as well as the larger
academic community, the state bar and the general public. The Law Library
is an independent component of the university library community and
participates in the campus-wide bibliographic system and in TRLN (Triangle
Research Libraries Network). The Law School is currently involved in
construction of an extensive addition to and renovation of its facilities.
The collection, which exceeds 425,000 volumes, includes a growing
collection of electronic resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

REFERENCE - Provide reference service to the Law School community,
including evening and weekend reference rotation; participate as member of
the public services team in developing, teaching and evaluating research
and educational instruction including CALR classes; identify and evaluate
electronic resources and develop innovative services for patrons using
electronic resources; prepare materials to assist patrons in using the
library and its resources.

ADMINISTRATIVE - Keep reference desk schedules; prepare reference
statistics; assist with training and supervision of reference assistants;
participate in collection development; and other duties as assigned.

The librarian in this position reports to the Assistant Director for
Instruction, Research and Access Services.

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from ALA-accredited library school and JD from
ABA-approved law school required; familiarity with traditional and
electronic research resources and excellent legal research skills
required; academic law library experience desirable; demonstrated teaching
ability and teaching experience desirable; previous supervisory experience
desirable; interest in and experience with electronic technology
desirable.

Ability to function effectively as part of a public services team with
strong service orientation; excellent interpersonal, communication and
organizational skills are necessary.
